Watercolours

a favorite thread!

 Blueberry Torte |
Watercolours® is one of my favorite threads and I love to use a lot of them together in one design. When I first began stitching with it, a pattern would usually call for just one Watercolour and lots of solids to go with and around it. However, I’ve become accustomed to using more than just one and the design possibilities are just endless.
Watercolours® is a hand-dyed 3 strand pima cotton and is part of The Caron Collection. Lois Caron established The Caron Collection in 1975. She initially designed patterns for needlepoint, which led to an interest in multi-colored threads. Watercolours was the first hand-dyed variegated thread to be offered by The Caron Collection and was introduced in 1988. Since then a lot of other threads have been added to the Collection. Watercolours® can be separated, making it a versatile thread to work with on a variety of counts of fabric and canvas. The weight of one strand is slightly thicker than a size 5 pearl cotton and about the same weight as six plies of cotton floss or one ply of persian wool. It has a silky sheen, especially when used with long, flat stitches.
Just released today is Blueberry Torte, the 4th in my Edibles Collection. It uses 11 colors of Watercolours, one skein of Soie Cristal (another Caron thread), and three colors of metallic. The recipe included with the pattern is for Blueberry Torte Pie and is one of my mom’s famous and delicious desserts!

You'll also find a new photo of Garden Path that one of our customers stitched. She wanted flowers around it so added to the pattern and I think it came out great! Scroll down to "Garden Path" to see Dottie's piece under the link above.
