Market News - Beware, it's Long!

Sent: June 16, 2006

Hi Stitchers –

Beware – this will be a long newsy edition of email! Before I start on all the new things from market though, something even newer has come along this week that I’m personally really excited about. Carriage House Samplings has another fabulous piece shipping next week to go with my Houses of Hawk Run – check it out at http://www.needledelights.com/index.php/photos/17.html    If you want it, just tell me that you want the new Villages – I’ll know what you mean! If you know you want all the silk (Needlepoint Inc), tell me that too.

Now for the market news – we have a lot of the patterns in the shop already and I know the UPS man’s back will be breaking next week with all the orders coming in! If you read about something that you already know you “MUST HAVE!” just send me an email and we’ll put it aside for you when it comes in!

In no particular order (just scroll down to see what you want to read more about!):

KELMSCOTT DESIGNS has a new magnetic needle minder - Nosegay of Posies (on coral). We also have her new Thread Rings (mother of pearl 3/4" diameter) that are for sorting and holding your floss in smalls (needlebooks and other accessories). I also ordered some dupioni silk from her in beautiful colors to go inside the smalls. I can’t wait to actually use some of this!

BENT CREEK  - I was excited to see a new Snapperland Series for Summer.... the first will be “Whale House” (and I love it!!!). I picked up the border chart which comes free with the buttons. The last two charts for the Spring series are ready and there’s a cute “Wedding Row” – all of their charts will ship “Christmas June” (June 25th!)

ROSEWOOD MANOR – And A Forest Grew (a sampler of trees – it was absolutely beautiful), Rose Watercolor Butterfly, Golden Watercolor Butterfly, Blue Watercolor Butterfly

MILL HILL – Lots of new kits – the designs are great this year! Buttons & Beaded Kits for Christmas are all buildings in a Village – I can see these stitched and mounted on blocks that would just sit up and be a little village. Their Halloween  set is also just awesome and we have all of the B&B kits in the shop. We also have two holiday Pin series. The first is their regular ornaments and they are adorable (Teddy Bear, Carolers, Wreath, Train, Kitty, and Gingerbread Boy). There’s also a series called “Santa’s Closet” -  these would be too cute on a clothesline or even a wreath. Holiday Greetings line is a series of cute little banners that are stitched on banding (woohoo – no finishing!).... And for those who have been collecting the cute little SANTA designs on perforated paper every year .. this year there are 3 Medieval Santas – Canterbury, Avignon, and Saxony $6.95 ea Did you make any of the Bracelet? They have another series of four and these are Flower Garden designs. Four color waves – they were beautiful made up. $29.95 ea  You can see everything on Mill Hill’s website www.millhill.com or come see them in the shop! Just give us the item code or the name and the series and we’ll save what you want for you!
MIRABILIA – Halloween Fairy Kit (she’s flying out of here already!), White Christmas (she’s beautiful – I saw it stitched!), Portrait of Lauren In Blue and Portrait Of Caroline In Pink (if you like Mirabilia but want smaller designs, you will love these)

FINGER STEP DESIGNS – All Wet - Crab Caught, Fish At School, Frog Leap, Seahorse Sweethearts, Snail Stroll, Turtle On The Move  -  these were all great if you’re wanting “seashore designs”

CHARLAND DESIGNSSterling Silver Snowflake Ornament Hanger (for your tree!! – you’ll see this in the ornament magazine later this year!). I ordered some other cool new sterling charms but the list escapes me right now!

THE GENTLE ART – 5 new Shaker colors: Weathered Barn, Mustard Seed, Old Hickory, Lambswool, Baby Spinach

JBW DESIGNS – French Country II – Apple,  French Country IV – Pumpkin, Glad Tidings, Blessings, Advent Calendar & Petite Ornamentals (26 unique designs and countless variations make this Holiday keepsake a family heirloom – it’s quick enough to stitch if you have multiple “families”! This Advent Calendar was one of my favorite designs from market – I just have to decide how I want to stitch it – there are lots of options!

HEART IN HAND – Wee One -  Birds, Pumpkins, Flags, Flowers and new from the Mother’s Wisdom series - Mind Your Manners and Look Both Ways ....I heard a lot of people talking about who they’d stitch Mind Your Manners for – maybe society in general, just my opinion!

THE SWEETHEART TREE – L-O-V-E Square (a teenie kit collection), Happy Are Those (kit), D Is For Dog (kit) [Like their C is for Cat kit and yes, she is making these letter kits a series – she’s working on A is for Angel], New Chubby Nutcracker series – first three patterns are Uncle Sam, Buckingham Guard, and The Golfer

For the Dog Lovers out there, my favorite dog on the piece is a fabulous little poodle – I may have to stitch this piece in memory of my beloved Misha – I’ll stitch my poodle in black though!

SAMSARAH – Pearls-Yippee, Pearls- Smile, Pearls-Happy Birthday, Pearls-I Love You (teeny tiny designs – I’ve ordered the frames because they were just too cute! and they’ll stitch up quick!), Fall in Love – another of my favorite designs done all in Watercolors on large count fabric and embellished with a great set of buttons from Just Another Button Company

MOSEY N ME – Starz x 12 (each monthly motif design contains a ‘star’), What I Learned From Lois (lacing), Red, White And Ewe ... it’s a sheep!  A very patriotic colored sheep for one side of the design with a regular old colored sheep on the other side (it was finished as a purse or tote bag.  I was able to bring home autographed copies (by Frank)  – one of each pattern.

CRESCENT COLOURS – (new floss colors) Blushing Beauty, Hickory Sticks, Razzleberry, Blackbird, Chili Pepper, Weeping Willow, Magnolia Blossom, Erin Go Emerald, Nighty Nite, Plymouth Rock – be sure to check out the free chart at the Summer Online Showcase – it uses four of the new colors. CRESCENT COLOURS has paired up with LITTLE HOUSE NEEDLEWORKS to do a special series of designs that we will be starting an automatic ship program for (or you can just order as you see them if you wish too). These will be a wonderful combination of chart AND threads (just like cake and icing!) - all you need to supply is the fabric of your choice and your needle!  A series of ‘fruit’ designs, the first will be Watermelon and features a juicy slice with a black bird sitting upon it.  Then, you’ll get Pear and then Apples and then Berries and I’ve seen them and you’ll want them!!!  They’ll retail for $12.50 (and again, the chart comes with all the fibers used)

JUST CROSS STITCH  They had ALL of the 2006 stitched ornaments displayed on a tree. They will be featured in the Just CrossStitch Ornament issue magazine this coming September!!  Don’t forget to reserve your copy of this issue with us ... you can see the cover on my Coming Soon page. And ... if you have not already reserved the 10th Anniversary Edition of the JCS Ornament issue book, do it today! They should be arriving any day - in fact, I'm disappointed we didn't get them for the weekend. They only had printed what they were going to sell as based on our reservations with them ... and this book will NOT be reprinted!!!  We got to look through this one too and it’s definitely a MUST HAVE!!!! I increased my initial order so will have a couple of extras but I know they’ll go quickly.

WEEKS DYE WORKS – 5 new shades: Galvanized, Red Rocks, Emma’s Pink, Okefenokee, Purple Majesty – I don’t know how they keep coming up with these great new names! *** WEEKS DYE WORKS is DISCONTINUING the following shades - so stock up now:  Hydrangea, Salt Glaze, Blackberry, Robin’s Egg, Eucalyptus, Granny Smith, Beehive, Jack-O-Lantern, Hot Rod, Grenadine, Cherry Vanilla, Ladybug, Mauve, Lavender and Cyclamen***

PRAIRIE MOON – just wait till you see Barbara’s two newest Halloween designs - made into the shape of a boot or a shoe - Mr. BonesJangle and Witch Boot?   I don’t know how you’ll decide which to stitch first - I mean, I love the witch in Witch Boot, but the cat in Mr. Bones Jangle is too funny!  I’ve already got a list of people waiting for these when they come in! And Icabod Crow is another wonderful fanciful Halloween design. Holiday Farm is the newest motif Christmas design in that wonderful series.

LA-D-DA her newest chart is “In The Garden” (she says her son referred to it as ‘granny porn’ - bet that makes you want to look at it!)

LIZZIE KATE – Autumn Things (4 or 5 designs in this great chart pack), Autumn-ation Boxer Jr Kit, 12 Blessings Ornaments-Caring, Family, Faith, Santa 2006-Just Be-Claus! .... and the coolest sterling silver snowflake charm! Lots of great punch needle designs too – they’re up on her website.

TERESA LAYMAN DESIGNS – The Knot Lady had wonderful new designs and I just loved her banner of lots of “Knot” sayings (you’ll see them in a later email).  All of her designs are stitched up using only KNOTS and are fabulous!! Pennies For Pearlies is a tooth fairy pillow design, Sheepish Grin, Monogram Rose, Bee & Thistle, Daisies, and Nuts For You are all wearable necklace designs (and small enough that you can try this fun technique! Yes, I believe that French Knots and Fun can be used together in the same sentence!). Sugar & Spice and Nutmet & Ginger are ‘gingerbread house designs’ that JUST NAN has created special WhimZi frames for!!!     If you’ve not tried this form of needlework because you don’t like to make knots, hey ... you cannot pull your knot through this fabric .... if your knot isn’t exactly perfect, you are just going to be surrounding it with other knots anyway and no one will ever know .... if you are wrapping your needle more than once around, then you are NOT doing a French Knot (you only wrap once for this!!!!!) and that’s why your knot looks lopsided ... and the background of your design is done with Colonial knots which are twice the size of a French Knot and go so much faster ..... Give These A Try!!  They are amazing to look at ... actually fun to do and are very addictive!!!   Teresa will have a Teaching DVD available in July so you can ‘take the class’ right with her in the comfort of your stitching home!!

ZWEIGART premiered a NEW MAGAZINE called “At Home With Needlework”.  Issued quarterly at $7.99/issue, the premier issue features 47 designs in all including cross stitch, redwork, hardanger, a section called Kid’s Corner with designs to teach children our needle passion, pulled thread work, waste canvas, and more.  Each issue will introduce another form of needlework. We have it in the shop now.

BLUE RIBBON DESIGNS has Patriotic Wishes Volume 2 and Patience & Prosperity
JB DESIGNS – These are the cute little tubed nutcrackers (painted needlepoint canvases). They listened to me last year and have several nautical guys!
JEANNETTE DOUGLAS DESIGNS – Spring Stitches .. And Summer Stitches (with embellishment packs of course!)

CARON COLLECTION has new Watercolours  - Cardinal (a wonderful red!), Cheyenne, Oasis, African Violet, Savannah, Glowing Ember, Wheat Fields, Olive Grove, Stucco, Mint Frappe, Celery, Evening Glow, Peyote {More ornament designs calling to me…}

I also ordered a really cool GADGET (a Karousel bag) - stay tuned for details – everyone will want one or two or three!! One clue – it helps keep you organized  and can be used for way more than just stitching! Mom was with me and she said “GET ME ONE”!!!

I’m sure there’s more to tell – just can’t think of it now and need to go get all the mail orders done so I can do more tomorrow! Thanks for all your business – I really do appreciate each and every one of you and just wish I could tuck you in my pocket when I go to market.
