Hi Stitchers –
Hoffman Distributing (our book distributor) has started something new on their website called “Friday Feature”. Each week, a popular needlework designer is highlighted with an interview with the designer and fun information. This week’s featured designer is none other than Karen Kluba of Rosewood Manor. I raved about her new pattern “Inspiration” last week and it’s been flying out of the shop – in fact we’re waiting for more to come in now! Anyway, I have a special connection to Karen as I met her in an airport after a tradeshow years ago when she was just starting out. I remember having a lot of time with her as our flights were being delayed and derouted. She was stitching one of the largest samplers I’d seen at the time and it was her “American Flag Quilt Sampler”. She was getting ready to publish it and it was exciting to see something that hadn’t been to the marketplace yet! Anyway, we struck up a conversation as stitchers always do and have been friends ever since. We’ve got a small group of people doing her “And a Forest Grew” as a stitchalong (my mom’s even doing it on 18ct over two threads to go over her bed!) and keep adding to it! The link to the interview with Karen is
Be sure to check this out today or tomorrow as Friday the featured designer will change! Although the past Friday Features aren’t on the website, expect to see them soon (there’ll be a link to the archives of past Features). I talked to their webmaster and he said the articles are saved and he'll put them on their website soon.
New Gingher Scissors
I just got notice today that Gingher is coming out with a new design in their “Designer’s Series” of scissors. Glory features handles with stars and stripes of the flag. They are also available in the larger size of dressmaker’s shears. I’ve posted photos on the website – these are shipping next month. Email me to reserve a pair. Here's a link - be sure to scroll down to Gingher scissors!
Online Show Info –
I browsed through the show yesterday and was so pleased with the speed! If you have limited time to browse, here are a few highlights. If you’re looking for particular needlework techniques, here’s a list.
Needlepoint (hand painted canvas) – Designing Dogs, In Good Company, Magic Needle, Princess & Me (mostly ornaments), Sandy Grossman-Morris, The Stitch Niche
Counted Canvas – Deb-Bee’s, Harbour Light, Heartfelt Desigsn, Needlework Designs by CJ, Northern Pine Designs
Hardanger – Cindy Valentine, Heartfelt Designs, J Designs
Embroidery & Crewel – Barrani’s Design Studio
I’ll definitely be ordering from:
Ink Circles - most popular vendor from the last show and already have orders for this show!
DebBees - her Motif Madness looks like so much fun to stitch!
Simple Stitches - love the flip flops and “discovered” this designer at Nashville – their patterns are really cute!)
My Big Toe (love the new Death by Chocolate for the chocoholics!)
Sweetheart Tree (new patriotic kit “In the Land of the Free” is my favorite).
Of course, I know we’ll be ordering more after I hear from more of you. It’s so fun to see what you like! Personally, I enjoy looking at the European (especially the French) designers. I’d never heard of Lilliponts before but their patterns are fresh & fun – different from anything I’ve seen before. If you’re looking for a traditional type pattern that says, “God Bless our Home”, see Dutch Treat’s page – this is something that I seem to get asked for every so often and there it was!
That’s it for my short and sweet market report – hope you’re enjoying the show. Let me know what you like!
