Tuesday Tidbits

Sent: March 23, 2010

Hi Stitchers –
Did you miss me last week? I took a Spring Break and went to North Carolina to stitch and quilt with my mom and a couple of friends. I am excited to report we are almost finished designing and stitching our joint project for our Retreat in January 2010 – I promise to show a picture soon! Now I’m back at the shop ordering new stuff and full of energy and ideas for projects and new designs. This week’s Tidbits email is just that – tidbits about this and that. Until Friday, read on…
Personal Stitching! I’ve been spending some time stitching just for myself this past month and am working on a large Blackbird project on 20ct linen over two threads. I was inspired by this piece I saw at market last year (shown below if I am able to get it inserted...) – it took my breath away when I saw it! It’s been in the back of my mind ever since and when I saw the new series “Anniversaries of the Heart”, I knew it would be the perfect piece to make my own “Blackbird Tapestry” – I’m stitching the entire series of 12 patterns on one large piece of fabric. I plan to just hem the edges, back the linen with an upholstery fabric and hang it from tabs on a curtain rod! The first two patterns are Snow Garden and Valentine Rose – once I finish these, I’ll take a photo and share it with you.

2010 Bookmark Challenge – Stitching for Literacy has started! We’re once again participating in this awesome program. If you’re not familiar with it, you can read more about it at http://stitchingforliteracy.com/. Click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d13bih1MW9o to see a bookmark stitched before your eyes to the tune of the first original Bookmark Challenge theme song. Celebrate reading and stitching by donating a stitched bookmark or teaching a child or friend to cross stitch. If you’ve ever wondered how to stitch on linen over two threads, this is an excellent video to watch because the stitching is on linen (I wish I could stitch this quickly! Watch the video all the way through to see a photo of a wall of bookmarks from the 2009 Challenge.

During the bookmark challenge, all bookmark patterns and pre-made bookmarks will be 15% off. With the purchase of a bookmark pattern, you can select a piece of fabric from our basket of fabric scraps that are the perfect size for bookmarks.

You can bring stitched bookmarks in anytime until May 6th. This year, we will again display the bookmarks in the shop and after the challenge, will hold a drawing. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Needle Delights. Every time you turn in a bookmark you will be entered in a drawing so the more bookmarks you turn in, the more times your name is entered and the better your chances to win. Let me know if you have any questions.

Joe Patti Sign – We now have a chart available of the Joe Patti Sign in the smaller series of Pensacola Landmark patterns. On 14 ct, the design is about 3x4 – perfect for an ornament. Chart $2.50

Stitching Blogs For a really fun read, go to http://spinsterstitcher.blogspot.com/ and read Coni’s blog – I found that after she started blogging (writing) about stitching my latest design, Rainforest Crunch, the orders started pouring in (Thanks Coni!). Her dog Stewey is adorable and is also a wonderful writer!
Canton Flea Market – I won’t be able to go on this Road Trip but you might want to consider it if you are in the local vicinity. My fellow basket consultants are sponsoring a bus trip in May to the Canton Flea Market in Mississippi and Tonia asked for the day off to go so I can’t be gone too! I’ve never been but heard it’s lots of fun! Who knows what goodies are there for the taking - maybe some needlework related items?? Who knows...The info is below – if you’re interested in signing up, you can print out the form and send it in or bring it to me at the shop and I’ll get you set up.
