Hi Stitchers –
I planned to write about the “Joy of Starting” a new project for today’s “Tuesday Tidbits” email because I started a new project at market from a new pattern we picked up there. I used a brand new color of Weeks Dye Works on a new color of Weeks 20ct linen. I had to use big linen because I didn't have any small needles with me. I'll have to write this article later because my heart is filled with sadness right now.
Tonia & I learned earlier this morning that Lisa Roswell, designer of The Primitive Needle passed away yesterday. Her car was swept away in rising flood waters in Ohio and they found her body in her car this morning. We just saw her in Nashville last weekend - this is such a shock and so very tragic.
Here’s a photo of her models at our shop
Lisa came into the needlework industry just a few years ago. I remember how excited she was at her first show exhibiting - her fun quirky designs were a big hit and we were happy to welcome such a wonderful person to the industry. We hosted one of her first trunk shows in 2009. With some trepidation, she agreed to send them to us (it’s kind of like sending your babies out into the world) but was thrilled to see photos of them at our shop. Having all her models in the shop for a few weeks gave us a great connection. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. She & possible future designs will be missed. You can read a note from her daughter on her blog at http://witchstitches0.blogspot.com/
Some Calendar Notes:
Don’t forget our first Stitch-In of the year is this Saturday, March 5th from 4-11 pm. There’s still room & time to sign up. The menu is “Soup & Salad”. Let us know if you want to attend – it’s always a wonderful time spent with other stitchers. $5.00
We’ve recently been notified of increases in the price of cotton. DMC has raised the price of all their threads to us. We have absorbed a few price increases in the past but this one is forcing us to increase our prices as follows:
DMC embroidery floss – new price is 50 cents (old price was 45 cents). The suggested retail on a skein of DMC is 74 cents per skein so we’re still significantly less.
DMC pearl cotton size #3 & 5 skeins - $1.70/skein
DMC pearl cotton size #8 & 12 balls - $2.75/skein
These price increases affect all the kit prices of quite a few of my Needle Delights Original kits. I will be adjusting them at the end of this week. If you’d like to take advantage of the current prices, place your orders no later than Monday, Mar 7th.
On a positive note, Caron Collection threads (Watercolors, Wildflowers, & Waterlilies), one of my main “Threads of Choice”, prices remain the same.
